(October '09 Connect, continued) Edward R. Murrow College of Communication Founding Dean Lawrence Pintak comes to Washington State University with an extensive background as a journalist and educator in the Middle East. He covered the Iran-Iraq War, the Israeli invasion of Lebanon, the rise of Hezbollah and the birth of suicide bombing. He most recently headed the journalism center at American University in Cairo.
Dr. Pintak is dedicated to promoting challenging journalism in Murrow's tradition.
For the first "Murrow Interview" under his watch, Pintak spoke with long-time associate, retired U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, Ryan C. Crocker, at the Rotary Club of Seattle. Crocker has been Ambassador to Pakistan, Syria, Kuwait and Lebanon. He is a native of Spokane.
