PORTLAND – Former Oregon governor John Kitzhaber will take on former NBA basketball player Chris Dudley in the race for governor this fall. Kitzhaber and Dudley won their primary races [last night] Tuesday night.
John Kitzhaber: “We are going to give Oregon a campaign about honestly confronting the problems we face, and the hard choices we must make in order to solve them.”
Kitzhaber handily defeated former Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury. Meanwhile, Republican voters overlooked businessman Allen Alley, former state lawmaker John Lim, and tax activist Bill Sizemore. Instead they chose a former Trail Blazer who's making his first run for public office. Chris Dudley rallied supporters at the Rose Garden in Portland.
Chris Dudley: “I'll balance the state budget by controlling spending and saving for a rainy day first, not by raising your taxes.”
Both Dudley and Kitzhaber raised well over a million dollars during the primary season. They're not wasting any time. The two already have campaign appearances scheduled for this morning. [I'm Chris Lehman in Portland.]
