New Idaho Coal Gasification Plant To Emit Less Carbon Dioxide

COEUR D’ALENE, ID - Conservationists are touting a proposed fertilizer plant near American Falls, Idaho as a national model. A Pennsylvania energy company has agreed to significantly reduce carbon monoxide emissions from the coal-powered facility. The state has responded with an air quality permit.

Al Gore Predicts No Treaty from Copenhagen

SEATTLE, WA - Former Vice-President Al Gore says nuclear power and clean coal may have role in the world's energy future, but a limited one. Gore was in Seattle yesterday to promote his latest book.One problem with nuclear power he says, is that it could lede to more nuclear weapons.

E-Coal Plant to Produce New Flex-Fuel by Summer

NewEarth Renewable Energy, Inc.  is a Seattle-based company that plans to produce and distribute a clean alternative to coal to power companies in the United States and Europe.  The clean-burning fuel is derived from sustainable crops and various byproducts.

The Northwest Power and Conservation website provides an interactive, Google-generated map that displays power plants and their output in the Northwest.  By selecting different energy projects such as; hydroelectric, wind power, coal projects, biomass, nuclear energy, and natural gas, the map will display the location and output of the plant.

 

Environmental Groups File Air Pollution Lawsuit against Boardman Coal Plant

Posted: Wednesday, October 1, 2008 Several environmental groups banded together Tuesday to file a lawsuit in federal court against a coal fired plant in the Columbia River Gorge. The groups say the Boardman, Oregon plant is violating the Clean Air Act by releasing harmful amounts of mercury and smog. Portland General Electric operates the plant. Officials at Oregon’s Department of Environmental Quality say they’re working with the power company. They say new air scrubbers will be installed on the plant in the next six to ten years. But Michael Lang with the Friends of the Columbia Gorge says that will extend the life of the plant.
