SALEM, Ore. – Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski said [today]Monday that he might veto a trio of bills. That includes a controversial measure that would allow psychologists to prescribe certain medications. Kulongoski is in the home stretch of his role of putting the final signature on new state laws. And he's kept pretty quiet about it.
Here's a sound you don't hear much in Salem these days.
Sound: cameras clicking
That's the sound of cameras clicking away as Washington Governor Chris Gregoire signs a bill into law recently in Olympia. Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski hasn't held any public signing ceremonies for any of the hundred-plus bills he's signed into law following the February special session. Ironically, just before the session, the governor moved back into his ceremonial office which was damaged by a fire in 2008.
Kulongoski has signed most of what the legislature sent his way last month. The latest round includes a measure banning most employers from checking the credit history of job applicants. Aside from the three bills for which he's issued a possible veto notice, the Governor also hasn't acted on a bill that would allow public school teachers to wear religious clothing in the classroom.
