Brad Jaeckel is manager and instructor at the WSU Organic Farm and has worked there since 2004.
Originally from Colorado and Wyoming, Brad spent part of his youth on a small horse ranch where he worked during the summers helping his family flood irrigate 325 acres of grass and alfalfa hay. After attending college and studying geology he gravitated back to farming and finally ended up working two years at a friend’s organic vegetable farm in Port Townsend, WA. From there Brad has worked on organic farms in New Mexico, Wyoming, and finally Idaho where he now lives with his wife and two children. The Jaeckels decided to move to Moscow in 2002 after struggling to grow organic vegetables and herbs in western Wyoming’s beautiful but cold Star Valley. Even at 2500’ Moscow provided a much longer growing season for the crops they hoped to produce.
In addition to managing the WSU Organic Farm, Brad and his family operate Orchard Farm and sell their produce at Moscow’s farmer’s market and Food Coop. His wife also runs a natural soap and body product business from their farm and includes her wares at their market stand.
