If you would like to:
- Protect and restore ecosystems and ensure healthy airsheds and watersheds;
- Prevent pollution through source reduction;
- Reduce the generation of land, air, and water pollutants;
- Cleanup contaminated sites;
- Enforce federal environmental laws; and
- Conserve our valuable resources,
there is a citizen group ready and waiting for you! The EPA has developed a tool called "Surf your Watershed" so that you can find your watershed and learn about the issues and concerns of your fellow citizens. It's a great way to learn about the watershed that feeds YOUR tap and find a citizen group active in preserving and maintaining water quality.
The point is to find your watershed and go from there! Material available online includes:
- citizen research and advocacy groups
- regional websites
- assessments of watershed health
- current projects and future benchmarks for governmental compliance.
The site is fairly intuitive but dense. Be patient, there is a lot of great information to be gleaned! It's all from the Adopt Your Watershed program, also from the EPA.
